Description

How a PhD led me into scientific publishing and medical writing

Dr. Jaymin Parikh's academic journey reflects how research training can open pathways beyond traditional careers in academia. During his doctoral studies, he developed a strong interest in scientific inquiry, critical appraisal of literature, and evidence-based research. While the journey involved the usual challenges of research—including data collection, revisions, deadlines, and the uncertainty that accompanies every doctoral project—it also helped him develop resilience, discipline, and a structured approach to problem-solving.

One of the most significant lessons he learned during his PhD was that research is not only about generating data but also about communicating scientific findings effectively. This realization gradually shaped his professional interests and eventually led him toward the field of medical and scientific writing.

Today, Dr. Jaymin Parikh works as a Senior Medical Writer and scientific communications professional, partnering with leading pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations across the globe. His work spans the development of scientific manuscripts, review articles, expert opinion pieces, consensus statements, conference abstracts, posters, oral presentations, publication strategies, and evidence-based medical communications across diverse therapeutic areas.

Over the course of his career, he has contributed to numerous publications ranging from original research and clinical studies to systematic reviews and real-world evidence projects. Working closely with clinicians, researchers, key opinion leaders, and cross-functional industry teams, he helps transform complex scientific data into clear, accurate, and impactful medical communications that support research dissemination and informed healthcare decision-making.

Looking back, Jaymin considers his PhD not merely a degree but a transformative learning experience that shaped both his career and perspective. He remains grateful to his mentors, colleagues, family members, and friends whose encouragement and support played an important role throughout his academic journey.

His story serves as a reminder that a doctoral degree can lead to diverse and meaningful career paths, all rooted in the same foundation of curiosity, evidence, and lifelong learning.
