Adani Industrial Visit – 2026
Description
Introduction
As faculty coordinators of V.M. Patel Institute of Management Studies, Ganpat University, we
organized a two-day industrial visit to the Adani Group facilities at Mundra, Gujarat on 31st March –
1st April 2026. The visit was sponsored by the Adani Foundation under Project Udaan, an initiative
that provides students across India with first-hand exposure to large-scale industrial operations.
Sites covered during the visit included Adani Port, Adani Power, Adani Wilmar, and the West Basin
Coal Plant, along with a hands-on session with Adani's Ocular Virtual Reality instrument one of the
more memorable experiences of the trip.
Objective of the Visit
The visit was organized with the following learning objectives in mind:
• To expose students to real-world industrial operations across sectors including port logistics,
power generation, agribusiness, and coal handling.
• To help students understand how large organizations integrate sustainability and CSR into their
core operations.
• To bridge the gap between theoretical management concepts and practical industrial
application.
• To provide students with an experiential learning opportunity through emerging technologies
such as Virtual Reality.
Site 1 - Adani Port, Mundra
Adani Port at Mundra is among the largest commercial ports in India, and the visit offered students an
excellent opportunity to understand port infrastructure and logistics at scale. Students observed stateof-the-art cargo handling systems managing coal, containers, and crude oil simultaneously. The
4
coordination between vessel berthing, cargo storage, and inland dispatch was particularly noteworthy
from an operations management perspective. As faculty, we found this site especially relevant for
students studying supply chain and logistics, as it offered a live demonstration of concepts they
encounter in their coursework.
Site 2 - Adani Power
The visit to Adani Power provided students with an on-ground understanding of large-scale power
generation. Students were introduced to both thermal and renewable energy operations running
simultaneously within the same organization. What was particularly valuable from a management
education standpoint was observing how the company has embedded sustainability into its operational
strategy investments in solar and wind energy, emission reduction initiatives, and energy efficiency
programs are not peripheral activities but central to how the business is run. This gave students a
practical example of how corporate strategy and environmental responsibility can align.
Site 3 - Adani Wilmar
At Adani Wilmar, a joint venture between Adani Group and Wilmar International, students were
exposed to the agribusiness and edible oil sector at an industrial scale. The visit covered sustainable
5
sourcing practices, responsible production, and the company's community-focused programs. From a
faculty perspective, this was a valuable site for students to understand how a global joint venture
operates on the ground balancing international business standards with local community needs. The
integration of sustainable agriculture and biodiversity protection into business operations offered a
strong real-world case study in responsible business practices.
Site 4 – Adani Solar
At Adani Solar Techno Park, students observed the complete solar panel manufacturing process, from
silica to finished module. Adani produces 88% of its solar panels in-house, making it the only Indian
company manufacturing solar cells domestically. The cells supply their hybrid power plant, currently
at 550 MW and expanding to 30 GW at Thawada, aiming to become the world's largest hybrid power
plant. Students were walked through the four manufacturing stages ingot formation, wafer slicing, solar
cell processing, and module assembly giving them a solid practical understanding of the entire
production chain.
