he may be highly qualified, but he may be a moron in many simple things. Still here, it doesn't
mean that you should belittle him. Once Shakespeare said that some people are born great,
some become great and some have greatness thrust upon them. Mahatma Gandhi became
great by his deeds. Rabindranath Tagore was great because he was born in a greater
society and even in that kind of family where he was great by birth, whereas Indira Gandhi
had greatness thrust upon her as her father Jawaharlal Nehru died at young age as a Prime
Minister of India. That is how life works. Finally it is your potential that helps you do some
great things. When we take interviews in our company, we focus on the failure part of the
candidate more than the success part. Our standard questions includes; thinking of the time
when they failed, what they wanted to do?, what they could not do? Why could they not do it?
When a person fails, his mind expands and the growth happens because people work to find
their answers. People work out of their failure to be successful. This should also happen in
the education sector. Inclusion, isolation and expansion would happen and this would reflect
         in society also.
More to it, the Varna system in our ancient society is differently described in Shastras and we
have misunderstood it in our society. As per the actual description, who is SHUDRA? One
who follows the leaders, the elders or the masters without a condition or without expectation
is SHUDRA. That also means that he is basically doing mechanical work, unlike a child who
only follows their parents. As you go forward, we get VAISHYA. Who is VAISHYA? Well, when
you follow your leaders or masters with the condition of something giving and taking is all
about the VAISHYA. Further, we have KSHTRIYA who are followers with the condition that
what they do should be appreciated, approved and supported. The last comes BRAHMIN
and that is unconditional leadership like a cow giving milk to its owner or anyone who needs it
or a tree who gives all its benefits to society without any condition. The wrong social
discrimination has largely become prevailing in Indian society and misunderstanding of
caste and social system has caused much damage to the society. It has nothing to do with
birth. When you do something bad to people or society, it is like a low category work of
SHUDRA. Lord Krishna stole away clothing of bathing Gopis and it was accepted but what
Dushashana and Duryodhana did with Draupadi was punished. The difference is there in the
intention. The intent of doing something is equally as important as what you do. If you do
something good, with good intention, that is good. But if you do something good even with
bad intentions, that is not good. That should be the message of our education. Our
education helps us to know what is good and what is bad, what is acceptable and what is not.
Allow me to speak on the education system in England long back in 1965. I was educated in
London. I went to England for my studies when I was 16 years old with my Gujarati medium
background. When I first went to school there, the teachers recognized my limitations of
understanding the lectures delivered in English. I used to work during the day and study in
the evening school. My teacher recognized my abilities and limitations and constantly
helped me out. Because of their education system, I could become the ranking among the
Indian students throughout my career in England until my master degree. The best part of
the education system in England was that during those 7 years, I had completed my
Engineering in Manufacturing starting from cutting to operating all kinds of Machines and I
was able to pass my Masters with the 100% scholarship. In England, they had a system that if
you are Diploma holder but if you are scholar and some have some guts, you straight away
jump for the master’s degree very after Diploma. I remember when I challenged the research
finding of our Department Head, he simply asked me some questions regarding that and
assigned me to rewrite and resubmit my thesis in next six months. And of course, no ego of
any kind was involved in that. Can we not have such a system in India?
