Quest for Identity,as the prime concern through which the writer highlights most of the
evils in the Indian society,has been discussed broadly. The impact of globalization in India
and globalization and the question of servitude through the eyes of Aravind Adiga’sThe
White Tiger. The protagonist Balram Halwai’s quest for identity and his need to become
something by hook or crook is a major concern in The White Tigeris presented. Impact of
globalization on Indian culture and co relation between globalization and quest for
identity have been discussed.
Man is a bundle of desires and the want for needs is endless. The insatiable desire for
prosperity is the most responsible cause for degradation of a man and the society. The
growth in crime rate in human society of the modern era is an outcome of man’s greed.
The chapter focuses on origin of greed, grip of greed, the addiction connection and
defining individual desires, covetousness and Maslow's Hierarchy of Need. The chapter
shows how Balram’s desire makes him greedy and criminal. The chapter presents the
insatiable desire for prosperity as a cause of man’s degradation in light of The White
Tiger. Crime from a social and psychological perspectives has been presented broadly.
Ambitious Balram Halwai is the son of a Rickshaw Puller and later he became self-made
entrepreneur. His excess greed leads to dangerous consequences and worst conditions.
Greed makes man dishonest, cheater, thief, fraud and Self-interest person who can do
anything to get his desire to get wealth or love or anything he wants in life. In The White
Tiger Aravind Adiga shows how a simple man kills his master under the effect of greed.
Balram does everything to pursue his dream. It is greed that makes him criminal. In short
the present research project by reiterating the fact that since the prime objective of
literature is to highlight so it can be corrected. Through the present research, it is hoped
that the issues highlighted by Aravind Adiga will find their way and reach the appropriate
forum in the society and administration for needful treatment, correction in the prevalent
chaotic conditions and make the lives of the people worth-living! If this happens, by
chance, it shall be the most rewarding experience and return gift ever presented to the
author and to the researcher!
