AN EVALUATION OF CHETAN BHAGAT’S NOVEL ONE INDIAN
GIRL WITH SOCIO-PSYCHOANALYTICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract :
Present thesis deals with Chetan Bhagat’s novel one indian girl which showcases a
conflict undergoes in female’s inner psyche - her suppressed and unfulfilled desires. This
research is based on descriptive analytical research methodology. The pertinent
information and learning has been undertaken from primary and secondary sources and
the comprehensive reading of different articles published in the national and international
journals, reference books and websites. This study in an attempt to investigate Bhagat’s
one indian girl from the socio- psychoanalytical perspective which present an archetype
shift in Indian women’s behavior that today’s women are not sensitively weak, dependent
and spiritless but are aggressive, unconquerable and least concerned about the norms of
the society.
The thesis has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter gives a comprehensive
introduction of Chetan Bhagat as a novelist, his works, his achievements, and the major
themes of his novels and also gives a complete prologue of the story of ‘One Indian Girl.’
The second chapter deals with the literature review. In the third section of the chapters,
‘socio- psychoanalysis: A theoreticl Perspective’ has provided complete information on
psychoanalysis which delineates freud’s three-tier structure of personality – the Id , the
Ego and the Superego.The fourth chapter deals the critical analysis of the novel and
highlights the descriptive technique to study socio-psychoanalytic approach in the novel
‘One Indian Girl’.
The fifth chapter is conclusion which presents the major findings of the research and
proves that in spite of several criticisms: Bhagat’s heroine overcomes as a tough
decision-maker and rejects to choose from the societal customs and represents a
archetype shift in In women’s behavior that today’s women are not sensitively weak,
dependent and spiritless but are aggressive, unconquerable and least concerned about
the norms of the society.
