The review of the related research studies and other work helped in keeping in view some
important points viz: components of English writing competency programme and test,
the size of the sample, weight age and time-limit.

As a result of the above considerations, five main components i.e. Vocabulary, Correct
sentence pattern, Punctuation marks, Writing on the basis of given data or situation and
Formal Writing were figured out for developing writing competency in the subject. The
area of these five components were specified into language behavior to be developed and
tested. The English Competency Development Programme was constructed for twenty
two days. With the help of the experts, pre-test and post-test of 100 marks were
constructed by the researcher on the basis of the objectives, analysis of the contents and
three dimensional table. The test was prepared comprising 20 marks for each
          component included in the programme.

The investigation was experimental in nature. The study being Quasi experimental in
nature, pre-test post-test only design was selected. One experimental and one control
group in each school was formed equally by lottery sampling method. The experiment
was conducted for total 22 days in which 20 days for teaching and 02 days for
implementation of pre-test and post-test. Both the tests were given 02 hours time. The
students’ competency scores were taken group wise. The analysis of collected data was
carried out with the help of t-value and, which are well known statistical techniques for
          analyzing data respectively.

The major findings of the study revealed that there is significant difference between the
Mean scores and Gain scores (difference between Post- test and Pre-test scores) based
on Gender, area and SES. Yet, the effect of treatment on area and gender did not produce
          significant influence on English competency.
