Abstract :
The objectives of the present research study were : (1) To construct and standardize a
Memory Test for students of Upper Primary Schools (2)To examine effect of sex on
memory of students of Upper Primary Schools (3) To examine effect of area on memory
of students of Upper Primary Schools (4) To examine effect of standard on memory of
students of Upper Primary Schools (5) To examine effect of intelligence on memory of
students of Upper Primary Schools Null hypotheses were framed. Variables used in the
study were Independent & Dependents variables.
Variables included in the study were : Dependent variable was Scores on memory test
while Independent variables included (a) Sex (b) Area (c) Standard (d) Intelligence. The
method of the study was Survey Method. Population of the study consisted of all
students of Upper Primary schools from 05 Districts of North Gujarat studying in
standard-VI to standard-VIII during academic year 2015-16. Sample of total 1800
students were selected through Multistage Cluster Sampling technique to establish the
norms and 300 students from among the same population have been selected to the
Memory test constructed of 75 items was prepared for primary try out.
Self – Constructed memory test was standardized by the researcher. By adopting the
procedure i.e. by conducting item analysis for the items constructed; by establishing
reliability, validity and norms of the Memory test (b) Final from of Memory Test (3) Dr. K.
G. Desai’s Verbal non Verbal intelligence Test. Different statistical techniques like
frequency distribution, mean median, standard deviation, percentile rank, t-score, I-score,
correlation were used to analyses the date. Hypotheses were tested and findings of the
present research study were (1) Reliability of Memory Test : (a) Test- Retest method was
0.83 (b) split-half method -0.59 (c) Spearman Brown formula was -0.74 (d) Cronbach
Alpha – 0.86 (e) Reliability coefficient by KR21 formal -0.96 (2) Validity of the memory
test : (a) face validity (b) concurrent validity -0.87 (c) intrinsic construct validity (d) Cliff’s
indices validity – 0.50 (3) Norms of the memory test (a) In present study norms were
established according to area, sex and standard.
Findings on the basis of hypotheses testing : (1) Higher level of memory was found
among girls in compare with boys. (2) Higher level of memory was found among boys in
