          Abstract :
Present thesis aims at exploring Indian Values in Sudha Murty’s Dollar Bahu. Research is
based on descriptive, conceptual, analytical and qualitative research methodology. Most
of the relevant information has been taken from primary and secondary sources like text
Dollar Bahu and the extensive reading of various articles published in the national and
international journals, reference books and websites.

The Thesis has been divided into the five chapters, first chapter Introduction gives an
overview of India Literature in English and contribution of Sudha Murty in Indian English
Literature and Society. Second chapter Review of Literature is a study of relevant
literature to find research gap. Third chapter Methodology deals with the thematic study
and analytical process of Dollar Bahu on the basis of Freytag Model. The fourth chapter is
based on detail analysis of Indian Values like social, moral, economic and individual
attitude by analyzing plot, themes, and character. In the present study, family orientation,
respect to parents and elders, sacrifice and adjustment, trust in the institution of
marriage, liberal giving and morality are analyzed through characters analysis. Fifth
chapter Conclusion presents that, the features of Indian social values are changed with
changing time. It also exposed the materialistic human nature and its sociological
impacts on the family. It also found how dollar played a significant role in destroying
human relationships. It has been seen throughout the study how the quest for money
fractures Indian middle-class society. The researcher has also analyzed the themes of the
novel like dehumanizing effects of globalization on the traditional Indian psyche and
          crumbling domestic relations in Indians.
Social values depicted in Dollar Bahu are studied and concluded that it is a need of time to
follow the traditional Indian values in Indian families which can improve the human
relations and human life. Sudha Murty’s Dollar Bahu gives a clear message to Indian
society on paying due attention towards Indian values and both young and old
generations must come forward to preserve Indian values.
