discussion on the translation studies to form a strong ground as the present research
work is an attempt to critically evaluate thematic concerns of Satish Alekar’s translated
plays. Chapter-II presents detailed account of Marathi theatre from its emergence in a
crude form to its current rich version alongside the valuable contribution of Satish Alekar.
It is here that the Research Tool, comprised of prominent issues dealt with by the
playwright in his plays, has been presented. Chapter-III, IV, V and VI have been titled in line
with a specific facet to cover various issues (thematic concerns) dealt with in the
translated plays of the playwright supported by subsequent evidences drawn from the
plays. In Chapter-VII titled Conclusion, alongside an overview of the entire research work,
the hypothesis has been tested against the actual research findings in simultaneity to the
dramatic techniques, language, plot, characters and other aspects that have played
significant role in making the playwright’s works attain global identity and special place in
the world of Marathi theatre. As literature is a means of instruction and entertainment
both, literature, in any of its forms, aims at voicing the ills of the society so much so that
the concerned can witness the lacuna and take corrective measures to make the world a
better place to live. Satish Alekar is greatly concerned for the problems of the middle
class men and their problems and through his plays; he has tried to bring them to light for
subsequent action. The researcher firmly believes that the present research will surely
contribute its miniscule share in ensuring ‘better society with better people’.
