EMPOWERMENT IN GUJARAT

Abstract :
This thesis contains five chapters, bibliography and appendices. The first two chapter
deal with an introduction of micro-finance, legal framework of micro-finance, credit
delivery models, benefits and issues followed by detailed literature review on micro-
finance and women empowerment through micro-finance. The other chapters describe
an in-depth research analysis to identify the women empowerment level through micro-
finance in Gujarat followed by findings, conclusions, suggestions and limitations.
Chapter 1 studies the concept, evolution and credit delivery mechanism of micro-finance
in India. The current scenario of micro-finance in national and regional context is
narrated. Also, the benefits, issues and future scenarios of micro-finance in India are
studied.
Chapter 2 deals with review of literature pertaining to the topic. It includes literature
survey linked to women empowerment paradigms and various impact studies of micro-
finance on empowerment of women with respect to the significant measurement
dimensions as economic, socio-cultural, familial/interpersonal, psychological and legal
and political parameters. It also covers some vital inputs in a tabular format.
Chapter 3 deals with the methodology which is used in carried out the research. It covers
the problem statement, research questions, research objectives, hypothesis, research
design, sampling element, sample size calculation, sampling technique, data sources,
research instrument formation, and quantitative and qualitative techniques used for
analyzing the data collected.
Chapter 4 covers quantitative and qualitative data analysis. It starts with the pilot study
analysis. Then it encompasses reliability statistics of the scales used in the instrument.
Later the chapter covers numerous statistical methods and analyses the collected data.
It also covers the interview narration of women clients as qualitative analysis. Cross-
comparison of these micro-finance institutions is also done at the end of this chapter.
Chapter 5 describes the major findings on the results obtained by data analysis,
recommendations and conclusion of the study. Suggestions to the micro-finance
institutions and the sector have been made on the basis of findings of the research.
