works in a way that if you truly wish something, and if you put 110% of your efforts in
it, it will happen.
When I was a 10 year old, I wanted to be known and recognized in Ahmedabad. I
wanted to be rich. I wanted to be an Electronics Engineer – although I had no clue
what that meant. Or how. Or when. After 50 years of being around the world, that
dream has come to be a reality.
I am sure that Narendrabhai dreamt very big in his childhood when he was helping
his father at tea-stall. Today, he is living his dream.
4. Be Passionate. Do What you love; love what you Do
You must ask yourself what it is that you really enjoy, and relish. Your parents will
curse me for this; but if you don't enjoy engineering – don't do it. Find out what you
are passionate about. And do that. We all have seen the movie: “3 Idiots”. And it has a
direct message for you, for all of us that I am merely repeating here. And such
decisions are not easy. They are frightening. They are life threatening. Such
decisions may lead to fights with your near & dear ones. But it is YOUR Life that you
have to live, your dreams that you need to make come true and therefore, you need
to decide what you are passionate about and pursue that with all you might
relentlessly.
Don't do it for money; do it for passion. Money will follow.
5. Be Persistent, be Patient and Perform
Once you have decided your passion and your dream, you really need to buckle up
and pursue it with all your energy, focus and discipline. This actually, is the secret of
success. We all get distracted by 'what my classmate is making' and 'I want to make
more money', 'I don't have this and I don't have that'. We compromise our end goal
for short term gains. We chase different things as our goalpost keeps changing.
Turning your dreams into reality is a marathon. For this marathon, you must train on
a daily basis. It's hard work. You must persist day in and day out for years together.
This requires persistence. This requires patience. This requires facing the failures
and learning from failures.
When I look at my friends and associates in the industry, one common theme that
emerges is: focus, discipline, pursuit of excellence, performance and demanding
perfection in everything that they do. The most vibrant and immediate example is
Ganapatbhai himself. He had a dream to do the undergraduate studies in USA and
do something worthwhile in USA. His life is a perfect example of what I am talking
about. He persisted with his company Cherokee Power Supply through ups & downs
