       Thalassemia Awareness And Screening Camp
The Thalassemia screening camp, organized in partnership with the Indian Red Cross
Society, Gujarat State Branch, Ahmadabad on September 8, 2021, targeted students from
specific courses. The Red Cross team, led by Mr. Nilesh Bhartiya and Mr. Jayantibhai
Valand, provided counseling on Thalassemia's genetic aspects, distinguishing between
major and minor cases. They highlighted the 25% chance that carriers may have affected
children, emphasizing the need for screening to manage the disorder effectively.
A total of 169 students from various courses attended the screening, with the success
credited to the guidance of Dr. S. S. Pancholi, Dr. Paresh Patel, Dr. Bhupendra G. Prajapati,
and Dr. Geeta K. Patel. The NSS Unit of Ganpat University played a crucial role in
supporting the event. The counseling session shed light on the incidence of Thalassemia
in Gujarat, particularly in North Gujarat, based on recent cases.
